3 common issues that prevent users from accessing edison365 applications.
1. "You need permission to access this site..."
2. "User account [...] does not exist in tenant..."
3. "401 [...] you need to log in through SharePoint Online"
Issue 1: "You need permission to access this site..."
If you see the following page when you try to access an edison365 application, it means you:
- Do have access to the Microsoft 365 tenant
- Do not have permissions to the SharePoint site collection

Try to avoid the habit of having users request access to the site; instead, explicitly add them to roles within the application admin settings.
Solution
This typically means that the user has not been explicitly assigned a role in the application. To address this, either:
A. Have an edison365 administrator add the user to the appropriate roles within the application.
B. Have a SharePoint Site Collection admin add the user to the appropriate SharePoint control group. (NOT RECOMMENDED)
Need to add a lot of edison365ideas users?
In edison365ideas, you can take advantage of Microsoft 365 groups when assigning user roles. Simply add users as members to the desired Microsoft 365 group, and the group should show up in the People Pickers when adding user roles.
You can also add users in bulk to groups using the method outlined by Microsoft here:
Issue 2: "User account...does not exist in tenant..."
If you see the following message, it means you:
- Do not have access to the Microsoft 365 tenant (given your current credentials)
- Do not have permissions to the SharePoint site collection
This error usually means you have an active Microsoft 365 session for another account that is not added to the tenant in which the application is installed.
Solution
You can usually fix this by logging out and closing all of your browser windows, or using a private browsing session.
Juggling lots of Microsoft credentials?
If you find yourself switching between Microsoft logins frequently, we strongly recommend that you log in to the site using dedicated browser profiles.
If you'd like some guidance on how to set dedicated browser profiles up, feel free to check out our guide here:
Issue 3: “401…you need to log in through SharePoint online”
If you see the following error, it’s possible you are following a broken link or have bookmarked an incorrect URL to access the solution:
For example, if you bookmark the URL for the client (e.g. https://ideas.edison365.com/Client), the site will have no context for which edison365ideas instance you are trying to access ( all edison365ideas installations redirect to this URL). To avoid this issue, consider the following steps:
Solution
Avoid “Favoriting” the edison365ideas app from the “Home” page. Instead, bookmark:
A. the SharePoint Site Collection URL <yourdomain>.sharepoint.com/sites/<yourideas-site-name>
B. An app shortlink, which can be provided by support.
Skip the SharePoint Landing Page
You can use shortlinks to let users skip the SharePoint landing page when they access the app. Of course, they will still need to authenticate before accessing.
