Step 1: Open Power BI Desktop

First, open Power BI Desktop. If you don’t have it installed, you can download it from the official Microsoft website.

Step 2: Load the Template File

Click on β€œFile” in the top menu, then select β€œOpen”. Navigate to the location of your template Power BI file (.pbit) and click β€œOpen”.

Step 3: Provide Parameter Inputs

After opening the .pbit file, you’ll be prompted to enter the parameter inputs. These include:

  • API URL: The endpoint URL for the edison365 API.
  • API Key: Your personal API key for authenticating requests to the edison365 API.
  • Tenant: Your edison365 tenant name.
  • Instance: Your edison365 instance name.
  • (Data Quality Report only) Data Quality Target: choose a benchmark filling out data

Caution: Please ensure that you enter these details accurately, as they will be used to establish a connection with your data source. If it does not match, it will not connect.

Step 4: Load Your Data

After providing the parameter inputs, click on β€œLoad” to load your data into the Power BI file. The template file uses your parameter inputs to connect to your data. The report is already packed full of detailed visualizations spread across plenty of pages, so all you have to do at this point is sit back whilst your report is built for you!

Note: If prompted, choose "Anonymous" credentials to connect.

Tip: Loading in the data might take some time!

Step 5: Explore the Template

Take some time to explore these and understand how they’re built. You can click on any visual to see the underlying data and calculations.

Step 6: Save and Share Your Report

Once you’re happy with your report, click on β€œFile” > β€œSave As” to save your changes as a .pbix file. You can then share your report with others, publish it to the Power BI service, or embed it in other applications.
